‘This is Plymouth?’ is a project delving into the realism of Plymouth. The photographs display all aspects that we may not want to admit our city looks like. The project creates an ironic tone, challenging that Plymouth is not ‘Britain’s Ocean city’ but a city that has been forgotten. My reasoning for creating this project was originally for myself because I had been having a difficult time in Plymouth and I wanted to signify the harsh reality that occurs here.

The reasoning for creating ‘This is Plymouth’ is because I experienced quite a few difficult situations last year and I was struggling to come to terms with what had happened. I felt the best way for me to overcome these things was to create a project on it. At first, I wanted to create a project showing me as an individual in Plymouth but this was becoming too challenging and making me for more negative. The idea then turned to me photographing Plymouth and portraying it to viewers through my eyes. I am glad that I stuck with my idea and pushed myself to carry on with the work because there were points that I thought I couldn’t carry on with it but now I have come out with a better outcome than I could have asked for.
